about

When originally recording ‘Heal Me’, I was given free rein as well as more time. I knew that these recordings would be used as the sound track for the White Tantric Yoga Meditation Workshops. The guidance I received from Siri Singh Sahib/Yogi Bhajan for ‘Heal Me’ was, “Make it a beautiful, personal prayer”. The original version has played in many White Tantric Yoga courses all over the world and is still available as a CD and on-line, but as is often the case, an artist thinks, “I could have done it better.” For years I fantasized about how I might do it differently, without compro- mising the soul of the original production. So now, 22 years later, I have recorded this new version, the title track of the album. One of the differ- ences you will hear is in the intro which now begins with the Slok of the fourth Ashtapadi from Sukhmani Sahib. What is interesting about the Sukhmani Sahib intro is that it was my very first song composition. It came about in 1983, when the Siri Singh Sahib requested that Sat Peter Singh make a recording of the entire Sukhmani Sahib. This was ultimately going to be over three hours of music. Sat Peter Singh asked his musically talented friends to help. I was the least experienced songwriter of the group so he gave me only the fourth pauri of Sukhmani Sahib to compose. Even that was reduced to the just the Slok and a bit of the ending. It may have been beginners luck, but everybody involved like my composition. It is sad that the music from the Sukhmani Sahib project is no longer avail- able, so I brought a small bit of it back on the intro and ending of ‘Heal Me’. It was my intention to make this ‘Heal Me’ feel like an “on your knees, deep emotional prayer.” Giving it a bit of a blues flavor helped express be- ing lifted from suffering to healing.
